“Itty Bitty,” Pop says, never taking his eyes off Linny’s father. “I want you to head on back to the house. You need to get you and your mama somewhere safe, and make sure she’s aware of what’s happenin’. I think it’s best if she finds out from you, instead of word spreadin’ around and trickling back to her.”
“No,” she states vehemently. My eyes bug out, and I have to catch myself before I slap my knee and double over. I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone speak to my father, our Alpha, that way. Much less in regard to a direct order. The lady balls on my mate. Pop quirks a brow at her, looking a bit shocked himself. If that had been anyone else, they’d be getting their ass chewed out right about now.
“Today is our bonding ceremony, and no one, especially not this asshole,” she sneers in Benjamin’s direction, “is going to ruin that. Nothing else is going to hinder us from bonding, because knowing our luck, a fucking asteroid might destroy the earth if we put this off for a second longer.” Pop and I both snort. She’s clearly rubbing off on all of us.
“Put some security on him. Hell, get Lex to watch over him. I’m sure she’d take great satisfaction in putting him in his place should he try anything. I don’t care what we have to do, but this day is going forward as planned. No one is going to tell Mom anything. We both deserve something special that he doesn’t get to taint, and even though I know he’s here, she doesn’t have to. I don’t want her to be anything but happy and carefree today. Filling her in right now would do nothing but cause her stress. It’s not going to make a difference if she finds out a little later. Tomorrow, we’ll go back to shitty business as usual. But for now, I’m going to enjoy my family and our friends who are here to celebrate me finally snagging my damn mate.” Her foot stomps a little, and I can’t help the cheesy ass smile that spreads across my face. I fucking love this woman so much it’s surreal. Pop shakes his head, but you can’t miss his amusement and adoration. I pull Linny close, loving the way she fits so perfectly against me.
“I love you.” I kiss her temple, reveling in the little sigh she releases.
“I love you more,” she smiles up at me, making my whole world brighter. We walk back out, the same way we came, but feeling exponentially lighter. Today, this gorgeous woman will become mine. I plan to claim every inch of her before the sun rises. And when it finally does, we’ll face the storm waiting for us. Together. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for my girl…because I’ll always love her most.
To be continued..
